What we do
Children’s Home
Rescue and Emergency Care
As an approved children’s home, we are always prepared to provide safe refuge for children facing immediate danger. Local child welfare officers frequently turn to us in urgent situations, knowing we can step in quickly to protect children from harm.
Rehabilitation
We provide counseling and compassionate care to help children heal from traumatic pasts. Through structured activities, including sports and games, we support their social development and help them rebuild trust and confidence in a safe, nurturing environment.
Medical Care
Every child welcomed into Kwagala receives a full health check-up to assess their medical needs. We ensure that all children have medical insurance and provide immediate care when they fall ill, prioritizing their health and well-being.
Family Tracing and Reunification
Our ultimate goal is to support family unity. We work to trace and reunite children with family members, providing essential reunification packages with bedding and resources. Caregivers also receive preparation to help create a stable, loving environment for the child’s return.
2. The community
Community Skills Hub
Recognizing the community’s need for skill-building, we empower adolescent girls, young women, boys, and young men by teaching essential skills like tailoring. We have established a skills training center in Lumuli and equipped it with sewing machines to make training accessible. This initiative aims to boost the social and economic independence of participants, fostering self-reliance and reducing community dependence.
Socio-Economic Clubs
To address gaps in financial literacy, we’ve formed Community Economic Groups of about 15 members, each facing similar financial challenges. These groups receive training on saving strategies, lending practices, and investment approaches to help them grow financially as a community.
Community Awareness Programs
Our field team regularly conducts outreach in nearby communities to educate families on effective parenting techniques, child rights, and responsibilities, enhancing well-being and support for vulnerable individuals.
Home Visits and Follow-Up (Reunified Children)
We conduct home visits and school check-ins for reunified children, monitoring their academic progress and attendance. We also work with families to identify sustainable income-generating activities for their long-term stability.
3. Education
Originally, our focus was on educating children rescued from the streets, but we soon recognized the needs of other vulnerable children in the community. Our education program now extends to these children, providing school fees and scholastic materials to support their learning journey.
4. Discipleship
As a Christian organization, we are committed to sharing God’s love through both words and actions, following 1 John 3:16-18. We hold discipleship sessions for children in our care and share the gospel during community outreach, fostering spiritual growth alongside practical support.
